Shift and Level Up

Small life lesson in the weeds

I love to forage and be outside especially in the spring and summer times. There is so much magic around us that we don’t even know exists. Someone tells you it’s a weed, we never question it. Someone tells you it’s a flower and not a weed and we never question it. What truly is the difference between a flower and a weed? They both flower. Is it because a weed grows where we don’t want it to? Truth be told some flowers we buy are just pretty, the real magic is in the weeds we kill and mindlessly step on. Don’t get me wrong you can do a lot with roses! They can also be poisonous, but knowledge is power and it unlocks a whole new world I never knew existed. This is also a powerful lesson on perspective.

Take a Dandelion for example. It was always a burden in our adult lives. We found reasons to hate it and kill it without question! Once you stop and be present to look at that dandelion and how resilient it is growing between cracks in the concrete or even how beneficial it is to us you start to look at a lot of things differently in life. I learned how to make delicious dandelion jelly with the yellow petals that my kids devour as soon as it is make. My whole relationship with dandelions changed once I looked at them with a shifted mindset and used what I learned to level up my life by using its benefits (for free just make sure they aren’t treated with weed killer) in our yard to help me and my family. They float in the wind to seed with tiny lips upon them making a wish. As kids we knew how magical they were we were just told to kill and how bad they were when we got older. Their leaves make wonderful salads and roots make powerful teas or tinctures to name a few ways to use them.

Shift your mind and perspective. Maybe start looking into the small things in life you step on and pass by while this crazy world of social media and stress consumes our minds. Maybe another lesson is to question what someone told you because if it doesn’t feel right it might be their truth but not yours. Then with your newfound knowledge of this thing you now notice use it to Shift and Level Up your life.
